Soundness, athleticism, blood and attitude make a successful sport horse. Sterrehof’s Opium abundantly combines all these traits, making him the victorious sport and breeding stallion he is. Opium has had a long and fruitful career with Marc Houtzager, with the Indoor Brabant, Munich and Donaueschingen Grand Prix’s wins, top three rankings in the Rotterdam and St. Gallen Grand Prix’s, the Calgary Nations Cup victory and the Aachen Nations Cup runner-up position, to name but a few successes. Opium finished seventh individually at the 2008 Hong Kong Olympic Games and competed at CHIO Aachen for an amazing six years in a row.
Sterrehof’s Opium performed at the highest level up to the age of nineteen, further emphasising the hardness and soundness he still boasts. Opium passes on these characteristics to his offspring like no other, adding excellent rideability and an athletic exterior. Opium is himself a son of the legendary Westphalian stallion Polydor, who led the international rankings back in the days. The daughter of Bormio xx, dam Ballerina adds a substantial amount of the desired thoroughbred genes. Granddam Regie is a daughter of the well-known sire Raphael. Opium’s dam line has produced a series of international showjumping horses.
Sterrehof’s Opium is available at Sterrehof Stud and Paardenhouderij Boeve.
