Four year old horses make their debut at a show
Several of our four year old horses have made their show debut. Last weekend this was the case for Jacobus-S, a gelding from Numero Uno out of the 1.45m qualified mare Erachelle-S (s. Toulon). He jumped with our rider Edward van den Bragt at a small national show and made a good impression. Edward also had the mare Julia (Marius Claudius x Quick Star) with him. He says about her: ‘This is a very sympathetic horse too. She behaved very well. It was just her first show and she did everything very easy. I could have even started her in a higher class.’
Relaxed way
Normally Edward will wait long before he starts the young horses at a higher level. The same goes for Jerom-S (photo, I’m Special de Muze x Lord Z), a horse that shows a lot of potential. ‘I still compete all four-year-olds at the lowest level. Once they can jump a course like that in a very relaxed way I will start them at 1 meter level. We’re very excited about Jerom but especially with this kind of quality you have to watch out you don’t ask too much too quickly. The goal is to let them jump calmly and with ease through the course. The rest will follow afterwards.’
Finally also Joel-S (Don Diablo HX x Quite Easy I) has made his debut at a show. Edward: ‘This one is a bit bigger and still has to strengthen a bit. Nevertheless he jumped surprisingly well the first time. The next one of the four-year-olds that I will start for the first time will normally be Julisimo, the full sister of Felisimo.’
