Good form not rewarded for Calimero and Edinus in Shanghai
The outdoor season 2018 started for two of our top horses far from home. Both Sterrehof’s Calimero as Sterrehof’s Edinus started with Marc in the Global Champions Tour event of Shanghai. The two brown geldings showed a good form in the Chinese metropole but at the end they just made one fault too many for an excellent result. On Friday Edinus opened directly with a double clear in the 1.50m two phases class. One day later it was time for Calimero to impress. At first he jumped convincingly clear in the second round of the Global Champions League team competition. Marc’s team Madrid in Motion finished this time on a seventh spot, the best result so far in the early season.
In the Grand Prix Calimero was on fire again but it was not rewarded with a clear. Marc need to take some strides out because of the time allowed which resulted in one rail down at the end of the course. So no repetition of the 2016 result when Calimero finished third in this Grand Prix which was his breakthrough at the highest level.
On Sunday the story of the day before more or less continued. The stands in a hot Shanghai were filled again with an enthusiastic crowd and Edinus jumped well but both in the 1.50m class against the clock and in the 1.55m class with a jump-off we saw one rail fall.
